While on vacation, Tintin meets eccentric Egyptologist Dr. Sarcophagus, who leads him to the tomb of the Pharaoh Kih-Oskh. Suddenly, Tintin's new friend disappears, and while searching for him in the tomb, Tintin finds strange cigars bearing the pharaoh's symbol! Although he doesn't know it yet, Tintin has stumbled upon a network of opium smugglers.
